The brief
FarmX set out to build what its founders call a complete operating system for farming — a platform born on a real working farm growing tobacco, maize, wheat, soya, and macadamia, and built to run other farms as a multi-tenant product. Deviatov Software was the engineering partner that built it.
What we built
A modular platform of seventeen modules on a multi-tenant SaaS architecture:
- Farm operations: planning, farming and crop processing, harvesting, orchards, and task management with work orders.
- Stores & procurement: inventory on accounting-correct moving-average cost, chemical stores, issue-and-return workflows, weighbridge integration.
- People: full HR and payroll — contracts, attendance, piecework, employee advances, NAPSA/NHIMA/PAYE.
- Assets & fuel: asset management, maintenance, diesel bowser and fuel tracking per machine.
- Water & IoT: telemetry from boreholes, dams, pivots, rain gauges, and pump stations.
- The clever part: a conversational AI assistant over the whole platform — ask the farm a question, get an answer.
- Platform engineering: multi-tenant data isolation, real-time updates, cloud document and photo storage, WhatsApp-integrated support.
