Case study · Tobacco processing
Digitizing a tobacco processing plant — one module at a time
Tombwe Processing · Client since 2019 · 11 applications in production
The operation
Tombwe Processing takes tobacco from thousands of smallholder farmers through grading, laboratory analysis, and processing — an operation where paper trails, lab results, and farmer accounts all have to line up, season after season.
What we built
Not one system — a family of systems, added module by module as the plant was ready for them:
- Farmer management: registration, deliveries, and farmer accounts — the commercial backbone of an outgrower operation.
- Laboratory: sample tracking and quality analysis feeding directly into processing decisions.
- Production: processing runs and yields tracked in real time instead of end-of-week spreadsheets.
- Human resources: contracts, attendance, and payroll for a seasonal workforce.
- Procurement: purchasing with approvals and a proper audit trail.
- Accounting integration: connected to the company's ERP, so operational data lands in the books without recapture.
Why it lasted
Systems introduced gradually survive. Tombwe's team never had a "big bang" migration — each module arrived, proved itself, and became how work gets done. Six years later, the platform is still growing.
Tombwe's managing director has recommended Deviatov Software to other businesses — one of those recommendations became a client relationship that continues today.
